Born and raised in Dickenson County Virginia, graduating from Haysi High School in 1984, Jim enlisted in the US Army and volunteered to serve in the elite 82nd Airborne Division. Jim finished his military service in 2008 after his last deployment to Iraq during the "Surge" in Al Anbar Province with the 116th Infantry Combat Team, 29th Infantry Division.
During years of both Active and Inactive Reserve service, Jim made a name for himself in the business world. As a consultant, Jim traveled throughout the southeast opening and reestablishing new and failing businesses. After his last year of military service, Jim owned and operated Black Diamond Security Group which contracted with the US Government supplying security teams for government officials. Black Diamond Security Group was awarded the largest contract provided by the US State Department through a subcontract with a larger firm in Herndon, Virginia. Once that contract ended, Jim settled down to spend more time with his wife, Twyla and son, Stacy, running the local Little League Football & Cheer organization, working with the Boy Scouts, and teaching Firearm Safety courses for Augusta County. Jim eventually found himself recruited once again...this time by a local firearms store (Nuckols Gun Works) as the store manager where he has been employed since 2014.
In 2019, Jim became involved in the 2nd Amendment movement in Virginia. A movement that caught the worlds attention and brought Jim's name to supporters from around the world. The videos of him speaking at 2nd Amendment Sanctuary meetings were spread both in and out of the US getting unbelievable numbers of viewers from around the world. Jim is still a name for protecting Constitutional Rights for everyone.
After the encouragement of many Waynesboro Citizens and Business Leaders, Jim ran for Waynesboro City Council's "At Large" seat. During the height of the Covid-19 lock downs, the election process was uncharted waters for everyone. In a 3 month election cycle, Jim ended up winning all 4 voting wards within the city but came up short in the total voting when the Absentee Ballots were counted.
When not managing Nuckols Gun Works, spending time with his family, or helping out in the local community, Jim hosts an internet "Conversation" show, WEDNESDAYS WITH JIM, which is simulcasted across Facebook, Twitter, Youtube & Twitch every Wednesday night at 8pm. Jim is also the co host of an incredibly popular podcast, THE LIBERTY ROOM w/ JIM & DWIGHT. This podcast it broadcasted by Spotify, iHeart Radio, Apple Podcasts, Google Podcasts among many others.
